volumes: women bound by art travels to Lexington County Public Library

volumes: women bound by art, an altered book exhibition, will be on exhibit at the main brach of the Lexington County Public Library from February 2 -28, 2013 at 5440 Augusta Road, Lexington, SC 29072. The art exhibition includes a collection of 13 altered books created by 13 women artists: Eileen Blyth, Cynthia Colbert, Jessica Cruser, Janette Grassi, Doni Jordan, Susan Lenz, Susan Livingston, Yukiko Oka, Kay Reardon, Liisa Salosaari Jasinski, Virginia Scotchie, Lani Stringer and Laura Windham.

Conceived and curated by artists Susan Livingston and Doni Jordan, each artist was given a volume of an oversized trade journal (Thomas Register of American Manufacturers Products and Services), which was retrieved from the curb outside the Orangeburg County Library by fiber artist Susan Livingston. The artists, which include art professors, potters, fiber artists, graphic designers, illustrators, painters, photographers and mixed media artists, were given total creative freedom for the project.

Lolly Petroft, Branch Manager of the Cayce-West Columbia library was present during the opening reception of the art exhibition at The Portfolio Art Gallery in October of 2012 and wanted to share the altered books with the residents of Lexington County. She encouraged Mark Mancuso, Branch Manager of the Lexington County Public Library to view the installation and plans were made to exhibit the work.
